We presently have nine dedicated Catechists teaching scripture in the three state primary schools in our area: - Balmain, Birchgrove and Nicholson Street Public Schools.

Classes are conducted in the mornings and go for approximately 30 minutes each. 

If you would like more information about becoming a Catechist, or if you would like to assist a teacher, please contact our Catechist Coordinator, Sandy Johnston via the parish office. Please note that teachers/helpers will need to undergo a child protection check.

Readers are rostered once every five weeks. If you would like to join our readers' roster please contact the parish office. Please note that you will be required to fill out a child protection declaration.

St Vincent de Paul Balmain offer assistance to those who have special needs throughout the area.

Vinnies are always looking for helpers.  If you can spare a few hours on a regular basis to help Vinnies with their work by either packing food hampers on one Saturday per month (takes around 2 hours) or visiting homes one evening a fortnight delivering food parcels (takes around 2-3 hours) please contact the parish office.

The music ministry of St Augustine's include a mixed adult choir which sings at major events. The choir sings a range of music from Gregorian chant to contemporary choral settings. Much of our music is in latin and lately we have been singing music composed at Lourdes. The Director of Music at St Augustine's is David Hinder who was a student of the famous Australian organist Christa Rumsey.

As well we have a wide range of music presented by the children's choirs of the Fr John Therry Primary School who specialize in music for school, First Communion and Confirmation Masses.

The parish has an active Parish Council and Finance committee. If you would like to be involved in this area, please contact the parish office.

Youth of the parish are most welcome to participate as servers at our masses.
